Hmmm...Why do we need money, seeing life is ultimately meaningless?
This is my reason:
It is true that life is meaningless, but aren't creatures that always seem to have to find a meaning to something? Especically life! But the truth is, we can't? We can't really explain everything, and soon realize after that life is not rational. Hence, we look towards religion, or even a thing to deal with our problems of immortality, or the fact that no matter how much we hope in life, we will always be disappointed (in most cases). The truth is, why hope? Why delude ourselves in this? Why not do something about it if you want it. In camus argument, it explains that it is through existence that our essence come about. So thus, when we don't hope, we will be free to do anything we want without any restrictions. It is through this freedom that gives us the meaning to life. Life should then be thought of as living in quantity instead of quality (in his words - live life like an actor, where we will be free to be whatever we want to be, live numerous life times! For example, as a "playboy" "or playgirl" you can be whatever you want to be or whatever your lover wants. And give it your all, but never be too attached, for all will come to an end when you die. Afterwhich, break up with that person and go on again with another. That way,you will never be able to compare, because each relationship is perfect in its own way, no one is better than the other or rather there is no point in comparing because life is meaningless. Thus, when we see things as uncomparable we will not devalue life)
Most importantly, I believe is that in order for us human beings to believe that our lives do add up to something and that life is not meaningless is through monetary things. This to many is our "accomplishments" to say that we did so many things and so many sacrifices that we have finally walked to this point of our.
Finally, I would like to add that if life was meaningless why don't we all commit suicide? This as Camus says, is the opposite and the worst thing anyone can do. For this simple reason, by commiting suicide your not doing anything, your just sitting back and giving up. In fact, one should revolt! Revolt by living one's life living and dying many time over and over again (like the lives of actors). We shouldn't be tied down by our limitations or final fate, we should make the most of it!! Thus, but not restricting ourselves to anything, we will realize that life is full of constant possiblities!!
